Renowned saxophonist Euge Groove returns with The Phoenix, an album that goes far beyond music to reflect a profound personal transformation. Available on July 17, 2026, this highly anticipated release follows the success of Comfort Zone (2023) and marks one of the most emotional and meaningful chapters of his remarkable career.
The album’s title is no coincidence. Groove fully identifies with the mythical Phoenix, the legendary bird that symbolizes rebirth, resilience, and renewal.
“After everything I’ve been through over the past few years, I literally am the Phoenix. Sometimes you have to let everything burn down before you can rebuild and begin a new chapter.”
Those words capture the spirit of an album centered on resilience, hope, and personal growth.
With a career spanning more than three decades, Euge Groove has established himself as one of the leading figures in contemporary smooth jazz. Before becoming a successful solo artist, he built an outstanding reputation as a first-call session musician, touring and recording with legendary artists including Tina Turner, Tower of Power, Eurythmics, Aaron Neville, Huey Lewis, and Joe Cocker. His unmistakable tone, combined with an exceptional ability to blend memorable melodies with flawless musicianship, has made him one of the genre’s most respected saxophonists.
The Phoenix arrives after the most difficult period of Groove’s life. In January 2025, he underwent complex open-heart surgery, a procedure doctors estimated would require approximately a year of recovery. Groove recalls those months as an intensely challenging experience, marked by loneliness and the physical and emotional effort required to walk again, regain his strength, and adapt to a completely new reality.
Throughout his recovery, an invaluable companion was Odysseus, his Bernedoodle service dog specially trained for cardiac alerts. Groove credits Odysseus with playing a vital role during his rehabilitation. He also says the experience profoundly changed his outlook on life, leading him toward a deeper sense of inner peace and spiritual growth.
“The greatest gift this experience has given me is the disappearance of fear,” Groove explains. “I approach life from a completely different place now. I seek peace, I appreciate every moment much more, and I’ve fallen in love with music again for the same reasons I did when I first started.”
Interestingly, The Phoenix is Euge Groove’s 14th studio album—a number that, in many traditions, symbolizes balance, harmony, and spiritual evolution, themes that perfectly reflect the message behind this new project.
Musically, the album features some of the most inspired compositions of Groove’s career. Elegant arrangements, emotionally rich melodies, and deeply expressive saxophone performances define the record. Rather than showcasing virtuosity for its own sake, Groove embraces a warm, relaxed, and heartfelt sound that resonates throughout the entire album.
The artist reveals that the album was virtually complete by June 2024—except for one essential element.
“Everything had been recorded… except the saxophone,” he says with a laugh. “I simply didn’t have the strength. At the time, I had no idea what was happening with my health.”
Having overcome one of the greatest challenges of his life, Euge Groove returns with a recording that not only reaffirms his extraordinary gifts as a composer and performer but also delivers a powerful message of hope. The Phoenix is far more than a new smooth jazz album—it is the soundtrack to a remarkable personal and artistic rebirth that is sure to inspire audiences around the world.
